Friday and Saturday, September 11th & 12th - Light Energy (5th Grade Only)
8:30 to 3:00pm
The Arkansas Science Specialists have developed a series of integrated, authentic, inquiry-based learning opportunities aligned to the Arkansas Science Standards for 5th grade, 7th grade, and Biology teachers. The modules utilize the expanded 7-E Learning Cycle and Instructional Model based on the successful 5-E Model (Bybee, 1997). All modules will include high-yield strategies and assessment tools. Instructional facilitation (coaching for implementation) will be provided as a component of this professional learning. These two-day professional learning opportunities are ADE approved for professional development credit. Participants will investigate the properties of light including absorption, reflection, and refraction. Light boxes and a color wand will be provided for teacher use in the classroom. Saturday, September 12 – Super Saturday: All Things Techie (K-12th)
9:00 to 3:30pm
Spend the day (re)learning how to put technology into your classroom content with the help of Kidspiration, Inspiration, InspireData, Podcasting using NASA materials, and WebCams. Brief (re)introductions to these will be showcased and the majority of the day will be spent in individual practice and project development. Monday, September 28 - NASA Night: Soils (2-8)

Feel that soil is just a dirty subject to teach? Join this lively group to explore the world of soils and learn how to make this topic a perfect way to get 'down and dirty' with the Arkansas SLEs that go with it. Saturday, October 3 – Super Saturday: Earth! (6th- 9th science)
9:00 to 3:30pm
Do the words faults, fossils, weather fronts, weathering, erosion, hydrosphere, geosphere, and atmosphere mean ‘Oh, no, I have to teach that’ to you? Explore the earth through hands-on activities tied to Arkansas Curriculum SLEs that will put the fun back in teaching earth science. Join us at CMASE for a Super Saturday filled with ideas and activities from some of our newest math resource books which are now available for check-out. Friday, October 9th Chemistry Matters (5th-8th)
8:00 to11:00am
Non-refundable registration fee: $35: snacks, all workshop materials including the AIMS Chemistry Matters Book and 3 hours of ADE-approved PD. If staying for the Healthy Lungs Workshop participants can order lunch that day for an additional charge of $10 - to be paid that day. Saturday, October 10 – Super Saturday: Rocks, Minerals and Fossils (3rd-8th)
9:00 to 3:30pm
Science process skills and the nature of science have quite a lot to do with the investigation of earth parts, namely soil, rocks, minerals and fossils. Join this workshop tied to Arkansas Curriculum SLEs for in-depth, hands-on exploration of the soil discovery, rock cycle, rock types, minerals and fossils. Physiographic regions of Arkansas and the processes that shaped them will be discussed as they relate to the landform features we see every day around us. Tuesday, October 13 CMASE Night: Webcams, Flips & Podcasts (K-12th)
5:00 to 8:00pm
Bring your own Flip Cameras , Webcams and laptops. .Learn to use a webcam to communicate with a classroom across the country or use it to make a podcast. Participants will also create a short video with a Flip camera and then convert it into a podcast. Loads of ideas for your classroom. Graphic organizers, formative assessment, and fun??? Make an impact on how students organize the tons of information given to them on a daily basis. Coming in the Spring
Everyday Science Mysteries
Non-refundable registration fee $40 which includes book, lunch, & snacks. Teachers will explore and design lessons from the NSTA Everyday Science Mysteries book. These stories are created for inquiry-based science teaching and will stimulate students to think of possible solutions to the "mysteries" that happen in our everyday world. Formative assessment probes from NSTA"s Uncovering Student Ideas in Science will also be introduced with these lessons.
